Diamonds and Cats and Guns
I'm in this mall, and there's a jewellery store beside this pet store, in a raised semi-circle, about five feet higher than the shops that make up the other half of the circle. I'm shopping in the pet store, only it's set up like a shoe store. There are little transparent plastic stands jutting out of the wall, and there are cats and birds and dogs and snakes just sitting on them. I buy this one cat that cuddles with me and stands with it's right side against my stomach, looking at me over it's left shoulder. Its tail is raised and then at its half point it's straight out, and the cat's purring intensely. It stands there for five minutes, no movement.
My father comes and says, after I've bought it, that I shouldn't have, because he doesn't have anywhere to put it. I live on my own, but this makes sense.
I pick up a guitar that's sitting just outside the pet store, and I play the high e-string, open, and then I hammer my index finger onto the fifth fret of the same string. I play this over and over, while walking around the lower half of the circled room. It sounds as though, when I hammer onto the string, that it goes through every note, from the first open one, up through frets one to five. I put the guitar down after a long time.
So, I'm about to leave, without the cat and I don't know why, but my jacket's been lost. I'm fairly upset, so I take this civil war era pistol out of my pocket and shoot the wall. After reloading the gun and putting it away, I walk through the mall until I come to one of those wheeled coatracks, one that would usually have uniforms hung up on it. Instead, it's a Lost and Found rack, and around it are all these people that I went to school with, guys and girls, all of them jocks or popular girls, and I see my coat. I reach for it, but one of the girls, blonde, tan, sunglasses and really pretty in this really fake way grabs it, and says "No, you can't have this."
I pull out the pistol again and shoot her in the stomach. I take the jacket, and then I realize, as I'm walking, that the back is really lumpy, and so I start pushing the lump down, and out from inbetween the lining of wool and the courderoy, and a $400 box of jewelry falls onto the floor. I freak out and kick it behind me, and realize there are two more lumps. So I take them out, and shoot the window of the jewelry shop that's beside the pet shop, because it's closed, and another guy I went to school with, Tyler Friesen, comes out and I give the boxes to him.
I walk out of the store.
